FOAC's The 'Blast' Newsletter & September 8, 2019 Meeting Notice w-Agenda :: 09/07/2019

The September FOAC Membership Meeting (Sept. 8th) is upon us and as we move into the fall legislative session and prepare for the 2019 general election we will be focusing on the rapidly changing landscape on the advancement of Gun Control, the gun control movement and the upcoming hearings in Harrisburg.

The hearings in Harrisburg, in Senate Hearing Room 1, before the full Senate Judiciary Committee hold great concern for gun owners who feel that we are being scapegoated to appease a public that is being misled by anti-gun groups and opportunistic, self-serving politicians.

As of right now, it appears that these hearings will focus on a range of anti-gun legislation with the top-tier choices being ERPO/red flag laws (SB 90/HB 1075), universal background checks (SB 88/HB 159 and 673), and assault weapon bans (including magazine and ammunition components-SB 292 and 388).  Mental health issues will be a focus but whether or not anything concrete will get done that would’ve actually stop these killers, current or future, is difficult to know. Certainly, reforms to the MHPA (Mental Health Procedures Act) are warranted in light of the federal decisions declaring that this Pennsylvania law does not provide for due process protections for the accused! Unfortunately, it seems that the rush to push these ERPO laws is ignoring the fact that the new laws will violate due process far more than the current problems with the MHPA section of law!

Recent events in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties have shown that despite the rhetoric of the anti-gun groups and certain politicians that government cannot seize firearms from troubled individuals and that we have to pass ERPO laws, these incidents prove the lie! In both of these cases, family members reported a “potential” dangerous situation because of the possession of firearms and other items such as collectible military memorabilia. While it’s becoming increasingly clear, that family members overreacted in a near hysterical fashion to lawfully possessed items, the record shows that police not only reacted in near record-setting fashion but somehow they found time to make it a media nightmare to demonize these people before the legality of the possession of these items was even determined! On top of that the media doesn’t seem to understand that to cover up the fact that they acted in such a hasty and potentially unconstitutional fashion, law enforcement has now applied a “302” mental health evaluation procedure against both of the fathers in these situations meaning that they have lost the right to possess firearms for the rest of their life unless they seek relief in the courts!

We are living in a time where George Orwell would feel right at home!

One very important fact that many anti-gun extremists avoid like the plague is the tragic reality that ALL of their proposed solutions will fail. Washington, D.C. and Chicago had handgun bans in effect for 25 years – or more – and still saw escalating, high murder rates, with the primary weapon of choice being the handgun. Thankfully, thanks to the Heller and McDonald cases, those handgun bans (and all those across America) are no longer in force.

Just recently, the mayor of Chicago attacked Senator Ted Cruz for having the temerity to point out some of the violence that the onerous laws in the Windy City do nothing to prevent. Now, we’ve seen with Project Exile that actually enforcing laws like the prohibition on felons possessing firearms (18 USC 922(g)) can make a huge difference – and it won’t impact the law-abiding gun owners.

It is ironic that after all of these proposals it seems that Mass Murderers know something most of the anti-gun groups and their pet politicians don’t know. These murderers figured out that they can break the rules and citizens are being deluded into thinking more rules will work!

They know they can do anything they want..for a while. No one will stop the murderer until people with guns arrive. Murderers get those 11 minutes of freedom to break the rules and to kill at will. Murderers enjoy the thrill of having their way with innocent people. They love the last free acts they will ever have. Murderers are thrilled by the notoriety that they get from the mass media..even if they never live to see it.

Murderers figured out that the rest of us obey the rules while they don’t have to obey the rules ever again. Mass murderers figured out that we are disarmed in “gun-free” zones. Murderers figured out that all we will do after they kill is create more rules.

Here is what murderers know.. and what most of us don’t want to know;

The next mass murderer is already planning to break those new rules.

Go ahead and make more laws. We have 23 thousand firearms regulations already. Make all the new rules you want. For a mass murderer, rules are made to be broken, the more the better.

That is the open secret of the mass murderer. That is also the guilty secret of the politician. Both of them know that new rules won’t stop the next mass murder. Neither the murderer nor the politician cares that the next rule won’t stop the killing. Both are in it for the fame, and mass murder puts them on camera.

Stopping the next murderer is up to us. Government can’t do it, though politicians will lie to us and say they can. No government on earth has the power to stop mass murder; neither the US government nor any government anywhere around the world. That fact is sitting in front of you. We have mass murder in China and Mexico, and they are “gun-free” countries where honest citizens are disarmed.

Law enforcement won’t be there when the next murder starts. We own those minutes until the police arrive. Those are the new rules we live by.

Too many of us want politicians to lie to us and tell us that the next rule will fix everything. It won’t. It won’t fix the damn thing!

The sad fact is that the next restrictive gun laws will in all probability make things worse rather than better. The next laws will make it easier for the mass murderer to kill more people. The reason is simple. Only honest people follow the laws. Disarming the good guys makes it easier for the bad guys to kill. That unavoidable truth is as simple as it is unpleasant.

• Go ahead and make your stores into “gun-free” zones. Murderers don’t care about plastic signs.
• Go ahead and make your churches into “gun-free” zones where parishioners are disarmed. Murderers don’t care.
• Go ahead and pretend that new ink on paper will stop a murderer with a gun. That is exactly what murderers want.

Do what you’ve always done after a mass murder. No one will stop you. That sigh of relief you thought you heard.. was the next mass murderer laughing at these new gun control laws.

Legislators should want you to be safer rather than to feel safe. This is not the time for opportunistic electioneering politics. Millions of us have learned that bitter truth and choose to protect our family until the police arrive. Carry everywhere and always. In many ways these laws will make us less safe and that will only serve to embolden these drug-induced manufactured monsters to kill more because we haven’t learned basic elements of what drives these killers!

Gun-control treats us all as criminals and demeans our constitutional rights and is a threat to the very fabric of our nation! Defending these rights is a duty that we all share and it will be up to history to judge whether or not we are a nation of free men or a nation of cowards! Where do you stand?

Anatomy of an Anti-Gun Congresswoman’s Anti-Gun Townhall: An Exercise in Fascist Tactics and Media Bias! By FOAC Board Member Daniel McMonigle

An elected member of Congress is ‘supposed’ to represent his/her entire district and to make decisions on facts ‘and’ to protect the Constitutional Rights of all citizens. Unfortunately, the reality is far different and the link above is a video of a Town Hall (9/5/2019) by Congresswoman Madeleine Dean. The townhall panel was made up of the following individuals:

• Congress Madeleine Dean (D-PA 4th) (Click for Record)
• Chief of Police Mike Talbot, Norristown, Pa
• State Rep Matt Bradford D-70 (Click for Record)
• Shira Goodman, Ceasefire PA
• No balance whatsoever to the views presented by the panel!

There were approximately 100 people in attendance. FOAC had good turnout.  Leon Baker, Frank Tait, Dan McMonigle and others, approximately 40% of the audience.

As a forecast of things to come, anti-gun Congresswoman Dean opened meeting, no pledge.  To say she likes the sound of her voice would be the understatement. She presented many immediate mischaracterizations of hard facts.  Constantly stated “Common Sense!”

She then introduced anti-gun Rep. Matt Bradford, who (by his record) has never seen a gun law he didn’t like.  The Police chief openly blew up their argument with notification of inner-city issues.  Shira Goodman was typical Shira!

The first speaker (with a faulty wireless microphone) was a mother who had a concealed carry license she said was life and death to her.  The panel all claimed they are not trying to take her 2nd amendment rights away.  Then the Chief said “he believed she should be able to own firearms, for now!” Many pro-gun folks balked and were pretty loud seeking an apology from the Chief. None was offered.

The second speaker was a woman whose husband committed suicide and she felt she had no way to get the gun out of the house.

The third speaker was me (Dan McMonigle), the microphone kept cutting out, annoyed me to death. Every sentence I seemed to utter was interrupted by the panel. Knocked me off my game. Microphone and interruptions.

Leon Baker spoke and, again, the microphone was bad, The panel members interrupted him over and over.  Constantly not listening and interrupting which they initially said they wouldn’t do.

I got so mad I stood and walked to back of room. Picture a basketball court and I went to under other basket at far end. While I was there a man came up to me asking me about AR-15s. He said you probably think everyone should own an AR-15? I told him absolutely not. I thought everyone should own two, as we believe 2 is a good start and 1 is none. He went livid. Grabbed my arm, starting coursing loudly and using foul language with aging A**hole thrown around a couple times. One of the police assigned to the meeting intervened on him and walked him away.  That led me to go outside and get some fresh air.  
Frank Tait updated me via text that neither he (Free HFS offer) nor Mike Gottlieb (lawyer and COTB of Lower Providence) got to speak.  
After Action Report: Most people spoken to in last 12 hours felt they weren’t listening. Also, many felt the Chief was out of line with his comments.

(ed. Note: this is another example of how to stand up for your rights and it exposes the lies of the anti-gun groups and legislators who are unwilling to have a frank and factual debate of the issues!)

What is Your Technique and Style When Defending the 2nd Amendment?

For over three decades, and especially in the past months, I have stressed that it is not enough to fight hard for our Second Amendment rights, 2A supporters need to fight smart, too. In today’s very hostile media climate, the approach we use in defending our rights will define how we are ‘all’ viewed by our fellow Americans.

When Beto O’Rourke and Eric Swalwell talk about mandatory buybacks (confiscation!) of modern multi-purpose semi-automatic firearms, they seek to perpetrate an injustice in the form of punishing millions of Americans who did nothing wrong by infringing on their rights.

They are in the wrong, along with Everytown for Gun Safety, Michael Bloomberg, March for Our Lives, the Brady Campaign, and other anti-Second Amendment groups and politicians.

Those who have stood against the injustices that those groups seek to inflict on law-abiding Americans, like the NRA, and other pro-Second Amendment groups, are in the right by defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

So, I’d like to conduct a little role-playing exercise and have you put yourself in the position of a suburban parent. They don’t own guns, they work, they take their kids to school and soccer games, and their knowledge of Second Amendment issues is often what is in the local paper and the news. You’re a neighbor they’ve been on friendly terms with, and maybe they’ve seen you wearing a FOAC hat or noticed something that reveals your Second Amendment support. I’ll post two responses to a possible question or statement they might ask or make. Then ask yourself which one would be more likely to convince YOU to support the Second Amendment.

“That school shooting was horrible, why did it happen?”

1. “People – real, live, allegedly lucid people – actually believe that this ‘shooting’ was real? Wow. That is difficult to believe. Just watch a single one of the interviews of the crisis actors involved and tell me with a straight face that the person has just witnessed about a dozen people being gunned down.”
2. “I think wild guesses about what caused this won’t do anybody any good. In past situations it has always been shown that there were failures on the part of government to stop the killer with existing laws. However, I still feel it’s better to wait for the facts to find out what happened in this case. Right now, I’m just keeping the victims in my prayers.”

“Some Congressman wants to ban assault rifles and require people to turn them in. Do you think that’s a good idea?”

1. “From my cold dead hands.”
2. “What he is proposing is the infliction of a massive injustice on millions of Americans who had nothing to do with this or any other shooting by infringing on their rights. Justice Department statistics show that rifles of all types are used in murders less often than clubs, bare hands, or knives. These rifles are also used frequently in self-defense situations, especially in emergency situations.”

“What is so bad about a red flag law?”

1. “This American ain’t surrendering anything!”
2. “The problem is that many of the proposals have serious problems, including a lack of due process and the failure to require those who are subjected to extreme risk orders to receive mental health treatment. In addition, civil commitment is another legal option on the books for individuals who are a threat to themselves or others in all 50 states. Sadly, those currently in office are unable or unwilling to use that option as well. But they are almost immediately demanding new laws in the wake of these tragedies.”

“But how can we address gun violence?”

1. “Could you please kindly pull your head out of your butt, STFU and go away…. pretty please?”
2. “There are solutions. We could enforce existing laws on the books to put away people with criminal records that illegally possess firearms. We can use harsh sentences for those who misuse guns in the course of committing crimes. We also support better policing. All too often, these tragedies can be prevented with tools that are available, but which those currently in office are unable or unwilling to use. Yet they are always demanding new laws on guns that target law-abiding citizens.”

“Why do you oppose universal background checks?”

1. “Get your skull out of your backside and start standing firm on the constitution and the Second Amendment as written.”
2. “Because background checks have not worked to prevent crime. Justice Department studies show that criminals acquire their guns illegally, usually through straw purchases, theft, or the black market. And mass shooters often pass background checks. Furthermore, in the past, anti-Second Amendment groups opposed instant background checks in favor of waiting periods.”

“So why do you oppose a license and registration for guns when we need a license to drive a car?”

1. “Every one of these schemes are just a way to infringe and violate the Second Amendment rights of citizens.”
2. “Licensing and registration schemes only would apply to law-abiding citizens. Courts have ruled that those prohibited from owning guns cannot be required to register guns, because it would violate their right against self-incrimination. In any case, criminals break the law to acquire their guns, usually through theft, straw purchases, or on the black market. Furthermore, some of the initial licensing laws, like New York’s Sullivan Act, were intended to deny Irish and Italian immigrants the right to have handguns for personal protection. Furthermore, many groups seeking gun control want registration in order to facilitate confiscation – which would be a massive injustice against millions of law-abiding Americans who have committed no crime.”

Again, I would encourage all gun owners to compare these responses, placing themselves in the position of a fellow American who is on the fence, or leaning toward backing anti-Second Amendment legislation. Ask yourself, “Which response is more likely to make me more willing back the Second Amendment, or at least be willing to hear more?” Once you have come up with the answer, act accordingly.

Gun Control Spells Political Dangers for President Trump

It appears that feedback from citizens opposed to gun control has shown up in data gathered by President Trump’s campaign. It apparently shows he would suffer a significant loss of support during the 2020 election if he supports gun control.

ABC News is reporting that the “data is comprised of campaign polling conducted before recent back-to-back mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, that left 31 dead.”

The data suggests support for stricter background checks among a majority of Americans, but “gun control measures would be unpopular with Trump’s base.”

Trump talked about a bipartisan effort for stronger background checks on August 5 and 7, just days after the El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, shootings. Days later he appeared to pivot away from the push.

Hours after the August 31, 2019, Midland-Odessa shootings Trump said, “I will say that for the most part, sadly if you look at the last four or five going back even five or six or seven years, for the most part, as strong as you make your background checks, they would not have stopped any of it.”

On September 6, 2019, Breitbart News reported that Trump met with Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) about gun control measures including expanded background check legislation.

Walmart and Other Retailers Cave to Anti-Gun Groups

Walmart has given into the anti-gun movement and will stop selling handgun ammunition, and .223/5.56 caliber ammunition. They have also asked their customers to stop open carrying in their stores. The list of retailers asking patrons to leave their firearms behind when shopping is growing with Kroger, CVS, Walgreens and Wegmans Food Markets on Thursday joining the other large chains in requesting that customers refrain from openly toting guns in their stores, even if they live in states that allow the practice. 

The decisions came after weeks of intense pressure from anti-gun groups who used the shooting in an El Paso, Texas Walmart as an excuse to push their agenda on the retail giant as well as the others. According to Walmart CEO Doug McMillon, the chain will also put pressure on Congress to change gun laws.

“It's clear to us that the status quo is unacceptable,” McMillon said in a memo to employees on Tuesday.

McMillon said he was avoiding alienating customers on both sides of the gun debate. A goal that gun-rights activist said the company has severely missed.

“We will treat law-abiding customers with respect, and we will have a very non-confrontational approach,” McMillon said. “Our remaining assortment will be even more focused on the needs of hunting and sport shooting enthusiasts.”

Gun owners do not see Walmart's decision as treating them respect. By pushing the Government to take away its customer's rights, it seems that Walmart is disrespecting their customers.

Walmart sees its decision as a way of balancing their customer's rights with the safety of their customers and workers. Walmart did not go into any detail on how stopping the sales of certain ammunition keeps customers and employees safe.

Walmart will also stop selling handguns in Alaska. Alaska is the only state that Walmart still sells handguns. In the Alaskan wilderness, residents see handguns as a necessity to remain safe.

In the months after the New Town shooting, Bloomberg-backed, anti-gun groups pressured Walmart to stop selling the ever-popular AR-15 sporting rifle. 2A advocates see the Walmart decision as bending to the pressure of well-funded anti-gun lobby groups.

1^st Point to Ponder: Northeastern University criminologist James Alan Fox, the leading researcher on the topic for the past 35 years, tells Reason, "There is no evidence that we are in the midst of an epidemic of mass shootings." The number of incidents and casualties are simply too small to make such claims and, he stresses, the media coverage of shootings often ends up creating a false sense that gun violence—which is at or near historic lows—is ubiquitous and growing.

2nd Point to Ponder: From the Washington post: The list below, far from comprehensive, is tragic, in part, because it is so far from inevitable. No, no single law would end gun violence. But there are reasonable, obvious measures that would help. For example: Ban the sale of military-grade assault weapons. Unneeded by civilians, they are a blight on the nation, their ready availability a national disgrace. Eliminating them would slow the growth of this list. It would save lives.

Anti-Gun Quote of the Week: – Friday on MSNBC’s “All In,” March for Our Lives co-founder David Hogg discussed what he believed was the origin of mass shootings in the United States.

Hogg said, “I think it comes down to reckoning with our history and our history of white supremacy in the United States. The fact that we live in a post-genocidal society oftentimes that was orchestrated by the United States government in that if we want to talk about mass shooting we need to recognize the massive number of ingenious mass shootings that was conducted by the United States government. I think back to the battle of Wounded-Knee and the several hundred Native Americans predominately men, woman and children that were slaughtered by the United States government back in the nineteenth century. And how that is never discussed as a mass shooting.  And that was wrong because those people were not armed and we were stealing their land.”

A favorite tactic in days gone by was to argue that companies like Smith & Wesson and Ruger were responsible for criminal actions undertaken by private citizens who were misusing those companies’ products.
