Arrests, Fingerprinting, and Revolving Door Justice :: 07/01/2014

In 2013, 30,000 suspected criminals whose charges included sex crimes, assaults and murder were not fingerprinted by Pennsylvania police, according to state records. State law requires that suspected offenders be fingerprinted within 48 hours of arrest. So, if thousands of people aren't getting fingerprinted, whose fault is it? "It's up to the police to do it. It's a mandatory function. It's not anybody else's job but the arresting department," said Eric Radnovich, director of the Bureau of Justice Services at the Cumberland County District Attorney's Office.

Gun buy backs-ineffective and Illegal :: 07/01/2014

"Gun buy-backs are popular, but ineffective . It gives the community a false sense of hope that police departments are doing something to reduce crime when, in fact, those who possess firearms unlawfully never appear at those events.
James Barry Wright, former chief of police, Opa-locka
  via No way to fight crime – Letters to the Editor – MiamiHerald.com.
  But they make for good press and people think you "care."
  Thanks Chief Wright. The legality of gun buybacks is suspect, as well.

Irresponsible Journalism in Florida :: 07/01/2014

"There was a time when newspaper editorials were suppose to be thoughtful pieces of writing addressing some important point for the local audience. While the rest of the paper was supposed to deal with the facts of a story, the editorial page was the opinion outlet for the collective mind of the newspaper about some major issue. And yes, maybe I am romanticizing a bit.
But now, with every story, most "journalists" immediately editorialize and color with their own personal bias an event.
This article shows how absurd the liberal media can be."

Op-Ed directed to CeaseFirePA :: 07/01/2014

Op-Ed directed to CeaseFirePA.  Unless this is gutted, and cut down to 250 words, the PG (surprise) refuses to post it as an op-ed. If its chopped to 250 words, they "might" run it as a letter to the editor. We like the long version here:
  "We all share a common goal of reducing the violence in our society, well at least most of us anyway.  Recently there was a letter to the editor published by an officer with Cease-Fire PA, Rob Conroy, entitled "real gun-control needed" (June 24, 2014). Where we sharply disagree is the way to go about it. Further, it is curious that Mr. Conroy is so distressed about legislation that is, at heart, simply a symbolic and sentimental gesture revolving around an antique muzzle-loading rifle.

  Please read the article, JPFO's Nicki Kenyon, Army Veteran, thinks maybe we ought to regulate tobacco and alcohol as we do guns.

  Do take the time to read about Open Carry Texas as well as Moms Demand Action. A lot of folks, including us, are tired of this in your face "activism". Colorado Laws Stand while Gov. Hickenlooper cries crocodile tears :: 06/27/2014

DENVER (Reuters) A federal judge upheld gun laws on Thursday introduced by Colorado in the wake of deadly shooting rampages there and in Connecticut, dismissing a lawsuit brought by sheriffs, gun shops, outfitters and shooting ranges.
  The two laws, passed in 2013 by Colorado's Democratic-controlled legislature with scant Republican support, banned ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds and required background checks for all private gun sales and transfers.

Mental Health Issue recognized by CNN :: 06/26/2014

(CNN) Next time there's a mass shooting, don't jump to blame the National Rifle Association and lax gun laws. Look first at the shooter and the mental health services he did or didn't get, and the commitment laws in the state where the shooting took place. Strengthening gun control won't stop the next mass shooter, but changing our attitudes, the treatment options we offer and the laws for holding the mentally unstable and mentally ill for treatment just might."
