Halbrook Shoots Down Bogus Claim about the Second Amendment :: 07/13/2018

The Second Amendment has been under fire for several decades. Although the Supreme Court has recently shored up the amendment’s status as an individual right against government prohibition—most famously in District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) and McDonald v. Chicago (2010)—the Constitution’s “right to keep and bear arms” still faces hostility from the intelligentsia. In a recent op-ed at FoxNews.com, Independent Institute Senior Fellow Stephen P. Halbrook, author of several books on the history of gun rights and restrictions, slays the claim that the Second Amendment was created to protect slavery.

Gun owners must oppose red flag laws :: 07/11/2018

A new wave of dangerous laws is being pushed across the United States. These laws don’t require due process, and your rights are removed without a crime ever being committed. If this sounds familiar, then it may sound like something out of “Minority Report” with Tom Cruise. Sadly, it isn’t a Hollywood blockbuster, it’s the new America. At least it will be if you don’t fight back.

Trump Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh Relies Heavily on Judicial Precedents :: 07/11/2018

After days of consideration, President Donald Trump on Monday night put to rest all speculation about whom he would nominate to fill retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy’s place on the high court. He named a leading light on the highly influential U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia: Judge Brett Kavanaugh (shown). Constitutionalists were hoping that Trump’s pick would be an originalist — someone who believes that the Constitution should be understood on the basis of what it actually says and the intent of the people who drafted it. But although Kavanaugh has stated that judges should not make law, his judicial record shows that he relies heavily on past judicial precedents that have often been in conflict with the clear language of the Constitution.
