'Gun control' politician compares cops to ISIS, says he'd shoot them first :: 03/30/2015

State Senator Ernie Chambers remains defiant, refusing to apologize for equating police with ISIS terrorists and saying he would want to shoot them on sight if he had a gun, Nebraska Watchdog reported Wednesday. Chambers made the comments during a legislative hearing on gun bills.

“My ISIS is the police,” Chambers said. “If I was going to carry a weapon, it wouldn't be against you, it wouldn't be against these people who come here that I might have a dispute with. Mine would be for the police. And if I carried a gun I’d want to shoot him first and then ask questions later, like they say the cop ought to do.”

It’s true that police abuse does exist, and in some places is rampant, as the “Only Ones” stories compiled by this column and The War on Guns blog document. That is recognized by law enforcement insiders who have joined Oath Keepers, a national organization of police, military and public safety/service professionals and retirees dedicated to not obeying unlawful orders, including participating in operations to disarm American citizens.

Chambers makes no such distinction between individuals and groups in his assignment of collective condemnation, something that when applied to ethnicity is called “racism” and “bigotry.” And it’s no surprise that a cursory look reveals another glaring example of Opposite Day “progressivism.”

That’s because Chambers is all for citizen disarmament. And that means he’s all for a state monopoly of violence, with the inevitable armed enforcers that requires. He so distrusts the cops he thinks only they should have guns.

Project Vote Smart shows Chambers voted against passage of concealed carry legislation. He inserted an amendment into one concealed carry bill requiring permittees to “carry concealed the maximum number of pistols for personal protection due to paranoia and stark terror.” Unsurprisingly, he “was rated 0% by National Rifle Association (Candidate Positions on Gun Rights).” And it’s not just that he supports so-called “gun-free zones,” he actively works to expand them.

At a time when mountain lions are threatening humans in Nebraska, “lion of the legislature” Chambers is fighting to repeal lawful managed hunting. He is also the lawmaker who maintains all white people are racist and says they “polluted the blood that is in my veins to this day.” And led a mob on a sexual predator hunt that turned out to be a hoax. And filed a lawsuit against God.

It’s pretty clear trying to appeal to Chambers using reason, including pointing out the racist roots and continue discriminatory application of “gun control” would be a waste of time, as that would require an open, non-delusional mind. Wanting to shoot people first based on collectivist bigotry may reflect a buried realization that he can’t be trusted with a gun, and we've seen before how some use projection to rationalize that must mean everybody can’t be trusted with a gun. That he defeats his own purpose by then turning around and trying to ensure the “only ones” with guns are the people he’d like to shoot requires a bit more rationality than what we've seen exhibited to date.

Still, perhaps he has a partial point. As the longest-serving politician in the Nebraska State Senate, perhaps all those hate-filled, racist and dumb enough to keep rewarding him with political power and the ability to impose control over their lives are themselves too dangerously ignorant to be trusted with a gun.
