Washington Self-Defense: Suspect in East Wenatchee Burglary Dies in Exchange With Victim :: 06/17/2016

Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal reports a suspect in an alleged East Wenatchee burglary died of gunshot wounds after a confrontation with the burglary victim several hours later Wednesday night.

Upon returning to the victim’s home around 8 p.m., Gjesdal says the suspect shot at the victim, grazing him in the chest.

The suspect then followed the victim into the street, stabbing him several times in the thigh. The victim then shot the suspect numerous times, emptying his gun of bullets.

Moments later, sheriff’s deputies arrived at the victim’s residence, where they saw the victim and suspect, 35 year-old Seth Williams, standing in the street, both seriously wounded.

Both Williams and the victim were transported to Central Washington Hospital, where Williams died during surgery shortly after midnight.

Earlier, during the 6 p.m. hour, the victim had returned to his residence to discover Williams leaving the home.  After entering the house, the victim discovered a broken window in the home’s “shop”.  The victim, whose name has not been released, then called authorities.

A Sheriff’s deputy came to the home and investigated the incident, finishing up and leaving at 7:22 p.m.  He missed Williams return to the residence by just a few minutes.  It was then when gunshots were exchanged.

Gjesdal says the two men was acquainted with each other as veterans.  The sheriff’s office is classifying the victim’s actions as a case of self-defense.

One man is dead and another was hospitalized when both suffered gunshot or possible stab wounds after a report of a break in in East Wenatchee Wednesday evening. Douglas County Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal said deputies responded about 8:15 last night to the 2600 block of 10th Street North East where they found two injured males.

While the sheriff indicated the names of the victims would not be released, the Wenatchee World reported the man killed was Seth E. Williams, 35.  Gjesdal says the incident is still under investigation but it appears the dead man was the intruder.   Three law enforcement agencies responded,  East Wenatchee Police, State Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies
