TV Reporter's Father Wants Laws to Prevent 'Crazy People' from Getting Guns :: 08/28/2015

One day after Virginia TV reporter Alison Parker, 24, and her photographer Adam Ward, 27, were gunned down on live television, Parker’s father is speaking out.

“It’s senseless that her life and Adam’s life were taken by a crazy person with a gun.” Tony Parker said Thursday. “Look, I am for the second amendment. But, there has to be a way to force politicians that are cowards and in the pockets of the NRA to come to grips with and make sensible laws so that crazy people can’t get guns.”

In Sacramento, there are two bills on the floor that could impact change.

Senate bill 347, introduced by Senator Hannah Beth Jackson prior to Wednesday’s shooting, would put gun violence protection orders in place. The orders would allow the state to temporarily deny second amendment rights to residents whose families, friends and co-workers believe they are a threat to themselves or others.

Another bill making its way to the governor’s desk, is Senator Lois Wolk’s SB 707, which would ban concealed carry permit holders from carrying a gun on college campuses for self defense.

Both bills will be heard just a few more times before going to the Governor’s desk.
