Trump on Virginia shooting: Mental illness, not guns to blame :: 08/27/2015

Current Republican Presidential candidate front-runner Donald Trump opened up on Wednesday’s on-air shooting of two journalists.

The murders of WDBJ7 reporter Alison Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27, by a disgruntled former co-worker who later claimed his own life brought quick reply from the White House and Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton, urging changes in the nation’s gun laws.

However, in an interview Thursday with CNN, Trump disagrees with blaming guns.

“This isn’t a gun problem, this is a mental problem,” Trump said. “It’s not a question of the laws, it’s really the people.”

The controversial would-be chief executive contended the killer in Wednesday’s attack should have been identified as having a problem before he pulled a trigger.

“In the old days they had mental institutions for people like this because he was really, definitely borderline and definitely would have been and should have been institutionalized,” Trump told Cuomo. “At some point somebody should have seen that, I mean the people close to him should have seen it.”

Trump then went on to proclaim his support for the Second Amendment.

“You need protection,” he said.
