Texas Self-Defense: Video shows shop owner turning the tables on robber during struggle in north Houston :: 02/08/2016
HOUSTON - Surveillance video shows a shop owner fighting for his life, then turning the tables against a robber in north Houston Friday morning.
According to Houston police, a man walked into an auto insurance office in the 800 block of E. Tidwell and asked for a title loan around 9:45 a.m. The owner told the man he didn't offer title loans, but the suspect continued walking toward him.
The man then pulled out a gun and demanded money.
The owner, who asked to be called Enrique, and the man began to struggle, and the man punched Enrique multiple times in the face. The two men wrestled each other to the ground.
"I thought it was my last day," Enrique said.
He said he tried to convince the man to give up.
"I have kids. Don't shoot me. I have kids," Enrique said he told the robber. "Just leave. Just leave. Leave the gun here. I don't want to shoot you."
The video shows he managed to get the gun away from the suspect during the struggle and chase him outside.
"My instinct was to follow him, chasing him. I see another guy inside, and I see he's moving kind of suspicious, so I shoot him, just to scare him," Enrique said.
Enrique shot out the window of the waiting silver Toyota Sequoia before the men fled the scene.
The men remain on the loose.
The owner sustained multiple cuts and bruises to his face but was not hospitalized.
Anyone with information is asked to call Houston police at 713-773-7070.
