Texas Self-Defense: Man shoots neighbor in dispute over surveillance camera, police say :: 04/13/2016

SAN ANTONIO - A man shot his neighbor Tuesday afternoon in a dispute over a surveillance camera, San Antonio police said.

The shooting was reported shortly after 1 p.m. in the 2700 block of Lagoon Drive on the Southwest Side.

San Antonio Police Department spokesman Officer Doug Greene said a man shot a neighbor who apparently came onto his property and tilted a surveillance camera down.

The man told police the neighbor had a knife and that he felt threatened. Greene said the shooting appears to be in self-defense.

The man who was shot was taken to University Hospital with at least two gunshot wounds to the arm, Greene said. He is expected to be OK.

San Antonio police were seen searching the neighbor's property for the knife that he allegedly had during the dispute.

Neighbors said the man who was shot was notorious around the neighborhood. Police records show more than a half-dozen calls for service to the house in the last year, including four in the last week.

"It was just something that was bound to happen. I mean, the police couldn't do anything about (it), and people were ready to protect their property," nearby resident Simon Ortega said.

Police said one of the men could be charged, depending on how the investigation pans out. Greene said if the story the shooter told police is true, the man he shot could be charged with aggravated assault.
