Texas Self-Defense: 2 Arrested & 1 Hospitalized After Homeowner Fires At Suspected Car Burglars :: 10/27/2015
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Investigators with the Fort Worth Police Department say two people are in custody and a third person in the hospital after an early morning shooting.
Police say the arrests and hospitalization came after a homeowner, in the 4300 block of Decatur Street, saw two men trying to break into his van and opened fire.
Eddie Garcia says the sound of barking dogs woke him around 3 a.m. Monday. When he got out of bed and went to the window he saw a trio of burglars breaking into the work van he always parks in front of his home. Garcia said he found it odd that the car the men were in had its lights turned off. “That’s what kind of surprised me and scared me a bit. That’s when I went into protective mode and fired in self-defense.”
While all three of the suspects tried to get away, one man was shot. He was later found wounded, with the two other suspects, at a Quik Trip convenience store on N.E. 28th Street.
Police said the vehicle found at the store matches the description given to them by Garcia.
Garcia explained that it was just a month and a half ago when someone else broke into his van. The crook got away with hundreds of dollars worth of his tools. to date, the suspect in that case is still unknown.
The man who was shot was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and at last check was listed in serious condition. The two uninjured suspects were taken into custody without incident.
Police continue to investigate the shooting.
