Tennessee Self-Defense: Suspect fatally shot at off-duty deputy’s home in Monroe County :: 12/11/2016
MADISONVILLE (WATE) – Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into a fatal shooting that occurred at an off-duty Monroe County reserve deputy’s home.
Investigators say the deputy heard something outside his home early Friday morning. He discovered David Scott Winkler, 44, trying to steal property. The deputy fired shots at the man’s vehicle after Winkler tried to hit him, according to the report.
Winkler was transported to Sweetwater Hospital and later died.
