South Carolina Self-Defense: Pistol-Whipped and Stunned, This Courageous Great-Grandmother Would Not Accept Defeat :: 07/26/2016

A 75-year-old Loris, SC woman is thankful she had the means to defend herself and her family from a violent assault when a pair of violent armed robbers broke into her home Sunday night.

“God was with me, God was with us all,” the great-grandmother said. “He was watching over us. He can’t stop things from happening – things will happen – but he had my back. He had all of our backs.”

According to a report from the Horry County Police Department, Eleanor Ring was in her home around 9 p.m. along with her 9-year-old foster daughter, infant great-granddaughter and her 78-year-old neighbor when two suspects broke into her home.

“They pulled the drawers out and threw them over the bed while the kids were standing in the corner of the bedroom,” Ring said.

Ring said they yelled, “‘Where’s your pocketbook? Where’s your pills?”‘ and when her neighbor tried to stop them, he was severely beaten.

The elderly homeowner said the female suspect rummaged through her home while the male suspect tased her with a stun gun several times and used his gun to beat her in the head. Rice was fearful for her life and the lives of those in her home, and knew what she had to do to stop the assault.

The male suspect knocked her down, but this determined great-grandmother made a break for her bedroom where she kept her own gun.

“I said, ‘You want to play with guns?'” Ring said she asked the robbers as she stood tall and took aim at the the male suspect.

Ring said she knew she hit her target when the suspect fell against the refrigerator, and both suspects immediately fled the scene on foot.

Horry County Police said the incident is still being investigated, but Ring said this latest home robbery has prompted her to install surveillance cameras both inside and outside her home.

“We live in fear,” she said. “We used to sit out on the porch in the evening; we don’t sit out there no more.”

The elderly homeowner posted a video using Facebook Live in an effort to bring awareness to the crime she endured, saying didn’t even know if her video was recording, but felt compelled to do something after being attacked in her own home.
