Saratoga County, NY Deputy Sgt. Shawn Glans, who was recently captured attacking a man for respectfully declining a search without a warrant, has been arrested and resigned:
Sergeant Shawn R. Glans was arrested and resigned Monday, days after the deputy was suspended after a video posted on the Internet captured him allegedly slapping a young man as the deputy insisted on searching his vehicle.
Glans of the Saratoga County sheriff’s department was charged Monday with official misconduct and harassment. The misconduct charge, a misdemeanor, is a the more serious offense and carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison. A judge forbid him from having contact with the alleged victim.
Sheriff Michael Zurlo says Glans resigned just hours before the planned start of a disciplinary hearing.
“We’re not going to condone it. Once it’s brought to our attention, we’re going to deal with it,” Zurlo told reporters Monday afternoon.
The other deputy who was with Glans is currently under internal investigation.
