Sen. Harris Proposes Taking Banned Guns From People's Homes :: 08/05/2019

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris has pledged to use executive action if she is elected to the White House in order to bring about gun control, including taking away banned firearms from people’s homes, The Washington Examiner reports.

The California senator explained that the issue had to be approached with a sense of urgency, also sending out several messages on Twitter that pushed for action on the topic.

When asked whether her proposal would include legal gun owner databases or gun confiscation of banned firearms, she replied, “I'm actually prepared to take executive action to put in place rules that improve this situation.”

She elaborated that she had experience dealing with the issue when she was attorney general of California, saying “we put resources into allowing law enforcement to actually knock on the doors of people who were on two lists - a list where they had been found by a court to be a danger to themselves and others. They were on a list where they were precluded and prohibited from owning a gun because of a conviction that prohibited that ownership. Those lists were combined and then we sent law enforcement out to take those guns."

Harris in April also vowed that she would sign an executive order requiring background checks for customers of any gun dealer who sells more than five firearms a year.

Harris said she would also include new regulation of gun manufacturers that could mean the revocation of licenses or prosecution.
