Second Amendment, NRA Go "Under The Gun" in Documentary :: 04/17/2016

While the documentary “Under the Gun”, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, claims to be a “fair look at both sides of the national debate”, the statement under the trailer says it’s no such thing:

The Sandy Hook massacre was considered a watershed moment in the national debate on gun violence, but the body count at the hands of these weapons has only increased. Through the lens of the victims’ families, as well as pro-gun advocates, and with a narration from renowned journalist Katie Couric, we examine why our politicians have failed to act.

Additional statements like “in America, there are more gun stores than McDonalds and Starbucks combined” show this mocumentary is using the shear number of FFLs (which also includes every pawn shop and many hobbyists that get an FFL to handle an occasional gun sale/purchase/transfer) simply to scare people into thinking America has a gun problem and hold politicians under the gun to enact gun control.

With an agenda in mind and a camera ambushing NRA members on the street with questions about the terror watch list, the film was “shot through the lens of families impacted by the mass shootings in Newtown, Aurora, Isla Vista and Tucson, as well as daily gun violence in Chicago”.  I can’t wait to see what they’ve cooked up as “the country’s problems with gun violence using statistics, commentary, even a personal account from former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords” – oh joy.

Directed by Stephanie Soechtig with executive producer Katie Couric, the full-length assault on guns and the Second Amendment, er…  I mean documentary, premieres on EPIX at 8PM EST on May 15, conveniently during an EPIX free preview weekend.
