Roseburg Granny Blasts Gun Control :: 10/08/2015

"I don't think Obama's ever carried a gun or shot one. But he seems to think they're bad all the way through."

Roseburg, Oregon resident and gun shop owner Carolyn Kellim says the calls for more gun control in the wake of the shooting in her town last week are misplaced. The 86 year-old is not only speaking from her years of experience living on this earth but as a gun shop owner.

"More constraints on guns is not the answer," Kellim told NBC News. "Control is for animals, it's not for humans."

Kellim puts all the money she makes from her little gun shop back into the community, donating the proceeds to a charity that helps homeless families.

"We have to take care of people that have had a bad luck stroke," Kellim said.

Kellim walked the NBC News crew through what is already required of all gun shops in her area, the forms that must be filled out and the background checks performed. She then took aim at President Barack Obama's views on guns.

"He has strange ideas," she said. "I don't think he's ever carried a gun. I'm not sure he's ever shot one … but he seems to think that they're bad all the way through. They're not."

Kellim also showed off her favorite gun, a Ruger LCR .22 which she said is easy to use.

Nine people were shot last week at Roseburg's Umpqua Community College by gunman Christopher Harper-Mercer. Harper-Mercer took his own life before police could get to him. The shooting has sparked another debate on gun control.
