Police: Home invaders targeted wrong house
ORLANDO, Fla. —A woman and her two teenage children got a rude awakening early Monday, when two people forced their way into the home, searched the house and left with nothing. According to Orlando police, officers were sent to investigate the home invasion at a home on Harwood Street, south of Colonial Drive and John Young Parkway, shortly after midnight.
Police said the two perpetrators knocked on the door and pushed their way inside when the homeowner came to the door. "You know what we're here for," the armed suspects said.
The woman and her children didn't know what was going on, and the suspects searched the house, presumably for money, police said.
The two suspects left the home without taking anything in an older model gray Chevy Impala, and police believe they may have targeted the wrong home.
Family members and friends were at the home all day, comforting the woman, who said the home invaders pointed an assault-type rifle at her and her 11-year-old daughter. She begged them not to harm the child.
"She's a mess. She's with my mom now," said the victim, who does not want to be identified by WESH 2 News.
"The shorter, darker guy had a long assault rifle," the woman said.
"He's holding the gun to me. I said, 'Look, I'm a mom, please don't kill me, please don't kill me.'"
"They was looking for money. She don't have no money," said the Rev. Daisy Fisher, the child's grandmother.
Fisher said it became apparent to the bad guys that they picked the wrong target.
"One of them said, 'Man, we got the wrong house,'" the victim said.
She said the men then backed out and took off, possibly driving a Chevy Impala, according to officials.
"These young people. They're trying to steal instead of going to work," Fisher said.
The terrorized mother has a message to those who also struck fear in the hearts of her children.
"You're heartless. You have no soul if you come to somebody's house and put a gun to their heads and their kids' heads. You need to go to jail. You need to be caged up," the victim said.
The family said they want to know if the incident could be related to the death of a relative in Orlando last year. The suspects were wearing masks, so there is no suspect description at this time.
