Pennsylvania: York woman pushes county to become 2nd amendment sanctuary :: 02/17/2020

York, Pa. — A York County municipality is looking to make a statement.

They intend to adopt a ‘Second Amendment Sanctuary’ ordinance.

It’s aimed at protecting the right to bear arms.

“I'm fighting for what's right,” said York County resident Alicia Rouscher. She’s in full support of Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinances.

“They have the right to stand there and say they will not enforce these laws due to they feel it is violating the second amendment,” she said.

West Manheim Township is looking to adopt the ordinance there. It’s their way of showing support and protecting gun owners from laws they believe would infringe on their 2nd amendment rights.

Rouscher wants to see this happen on a county level.

Others who are pro 2nd amendment say they feel Pennsylvania isn’t facing legislation that would impact their rights.

“The governor hasn't indicated any actions like that so in PA I don't think that action is necessary, but I understand peoples fears,” says Brian McCleaf.

He feels the commonwealth is safe.

“I welcome the refreshing government action with citizens checking the government and preparing to check the government so I applaud anybody that is willing to stand up to the government when it comes to infringement upon rights.”

These ordinances are popping up in other states where some are protesting new gun control.

Some counties in PA are making a point too.

“We have four that are resolutions which just is the statement its not the actual ordinance, but we have four of them which are Bradford County, Huntingdon, Sullivan and Cambria counties,” Rouscher explained.

Right now she’s collecting signatures for a petition.

“I'm working through some of the state reps right now I've gotten the word out with sportsman clubs gun shops there's a lot of people helping me at different angles of the county.”

West Manheim Township Supervisors will be meeting this Tuesday. The ordinance is on their agenda.
