Palin: Arm yourself, self defense 'a God-given right' :: 11/17/2015

Sarah Palin is again proving that she is one of a kind.  The influential conservative this week is releasing a book of daily devotionals that mixes Biblical messages with her philosophy and experiences like how the media treated her 2008 vice presidential campaign.

It may be the most political devotional ever -- and a pretty entertaining read.

Throughout the book from Regnery Faith, she discusses her past, how she and her family have been welcomed by supporters and scored by critics, especially the media, and she uses scripture to suggest paths for people to follow.

The bottom line, she writes, "hang in there and don't let the weariness knock you down. There's an appointed time for breakthrough; what you're going through is preparation for something greater."

In parts, she tells stories about her past, like her firing from Fox. It turns out that the cable network never told her she was fired when it dropped her last summer.

"I got canned by Fox. At least I think I got canned," she writes in her new book, Sweet Freedom, A Devotional. "I've to this day never actually been told, 'You're outta there,' but my bosses left a message with my husband to make sure I knew they wouldn't be renewing my contract," she adds.

She didn't get mad, though her daughter Piper had earlier said that Fox was her "pet peeve." In an advance copy provided to the Examiner, Palin says, "Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn. That's the media business."

She also address controversial issues in 260 devotionals, like guns. In one devotional quoting Exodus and titled "Old Testament and the Second Amendment," she writes that the Bible encourages self defense and urges membership in gun rights groups.

Also from the Washington Examiner

"Today, commit to supporting organizations and leaders who fight for our Second Amendment and oppose those who seek to destroy it," she wrote in the Action area.

And in another quoting Isaiah, Palin pens, "Consider getting a carry permit for protection, and maybe take a friend to a range to enjoy some safe shooting. Self-defense is a God-given right."

SarahPAC, the pack linked to Palin, is promoting the book and her book tour and said Sweet Freedom is an example of the focus the group has on faith-supporting candidates to help:

"Faith is the cornerstone on which our nation and its future is built upon. It gives us meaning and purpose. It shines a light and points us in the direction we should go. It gives us strength in times of doubt and struggle.

"At SarahPAC, we believe faith is integral when choosing our country's leaders. That is why we seek to support candidates who are not only strong conservatives but also walk in accordance to Biblical principles."
