Oklahoma Self-Defense: Man kills alleged intruder in his driveway, investigation underway :: 10/27/2015

TEXAS COUNTY, Okla. — The Texas County Sheriff’s Office and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation are investigating a homicide that happened in Guymon on Saturday.

Reports say the sheriff’s office received a call from the a man stating he had shot another man in his driveway.

The shooter told authorities that Kennan Lee Rice, 39, was tailgating him and trying to chase him off the road near U.S. Highway 54 and Main Street.

The man made it to his home just east of County Road 26 when Rice reportedly pulled in behind him, blocking him into his own driveway. The man allegedly told Rice to leave and that he didn’t want any trouble.

Police say Rice charged the man anyway. That’s when the victim fired his handgun at Rice, hitting him several times.

Rice died at the scene, according to officials.

OSBI agents will continue to collect information and evidence. The district attorney will determine if the shooting was in self defense.

Since the shooter has not been arrested or charged for any crime, his name will not be released at this time.
