Okla. school district considers arming its teachers :: 11/17/2015
An Oklahoma school district is considering allowing its teachers to carry guns in schools, six months after the state made it legal for school staff to bring firearms onto school campuses.
Guthrie Public Schools’ board of education has assembled a committee to research the issue and to report its findings to the board in January. The idea was proposed by a board member at a recent meeting of the board.
So far, two Oklahoma school districts have voted to allow their staffs to bring guns to school. Teachers who wish to carry guns must complete necessary training and certification. If Guthrie does authorize its educators to bring guns to school, it would be the largest of the three districts to do so.
