Noticeable spike reported in interest from women who want to learn about guns :: 06/17/2020

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Local firearm instructors said concealed carry classes are in high demand, and moms are the ones lining up at the door

For Cape Coral mother, Chrisy Franks, the decision to take a concealed carry class was for her kids.

“I want to protect my children. I will protect my children,” said Franks.

She went to a local, private NRA certified gun instructor, Beth Granger.

“They see some of the violence. Not only with what’s been going on but just everyday violence. They just want to know that if there’s a situation, that they can protect themselves and their children,” said Granger.

She said there has been a noticeable spike in interest from women who want to learn about guns.

Shoot Center in Cape Coral has noticed the spike in interest as well.

“We have had to make more classes just because there’s so many people that want to learn,” said Anissa Smith, a firearms instructor at Shoot Center.

Concealed carry classes and gun ranges/stores like Shoot Center were never closed by COVID-19.

However, the Florida Department of Agriculture, the office that issues the permits, did close.

The office has reopened now, and according to Granger, they could be handling a higher volume of applications than normal.
