New York Self-Defense: REPORTED HOME INVASIONS LEAD TO INJURIES IN YORKVILLE, NEW HARTFORD :: 12/02/2020

New Hartford Police and New York State Police are investigating two overnight home invasions which were reported within minutes of each other.

According to the Oneida County 911 Center, the first was reported at 2:35 a.m. New Hartford Police Chief Michael Inserra says someone kicked in the front door of a home on Ney Avenue, and three to four suspects entered the home and tried to commit a burglary. The chief says an occupant of the duplex who was in a rear bedroom heard commotion, came out with a long gun, and exchanged fire with a suspect who had a handgun.

A woman who was visiting the occupants of the apartment, and had been forced to the ground by a suspect, was shot in the lower extremities. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds, and her injuries are not life threatening.

The suspects then drove off, headed north on Ney Ave. A description of the vehicle is not available.

Five minutes after the first home invasion was reported, a second was reported at Seneca Mobile Manor on Seneca Turnpike in New Hartford. State Police are handling this one, as New Hartford Police are tied up investigating the first. NewsChannel 2 is awaiting details in that case.

Both agencies are working together to determine if the two are connected. No arrests have been made, yet.

Wednesday morning Utica College sent a message regarding the Ney Ave. incident, stating no members of the campus community were involved and there is no risk to the public.
