New Jersey Tyranny: More Claims by Second Amendment Society in Denying of Handgun Permits by Police :: 12/08/2015

Orange Police declined to comment on a hidden camera recording of an Orange police detective sergeant saying who he would and would not approve for a gun purchase permit: “Just like it doesn’t mention anything about the elderly, however, an elderly person wouldn’t get approved for a handgun. Absolutely not.”

New Jersey law allows 21-year-olds to buy and own a handgun. But, the detective sergeant says they’re usually not mature enough. “To me, I have to know that you are responsible enough.”

The man with the camera has a spinal cord injury and walks with crutches and has gun permits in another town. But in Orange? “You would say no? I probably would.”

New Jerseyans must prove they’re under a direct and/or imminent threat for police to approve a rare permit to carry a handgun the detective sergeant says it’s out of the question:

NJ Second Amendment Society: “Carry permit, is that possible, too?”

Orange Police detective sergeant: “Well, not for citizens, but you do have people that have carry permits…”

NJ Second Amendment Society: “Citizens aren’t allowed in Jersey?”

Orange Police detective sergeant: “No, no.”

NJ Second Amendment Society: “Oh, I know Texas, Kentucky they… but none in Jersey?”

Orange Police detective sergeant: “No, not New Jersey.”

NJ Second Amendment Society: “Wow.”

Orange Police detective sergeant: “Only if you work for a security firm and they need you to carry a gun to perform specific, various specific duties. Otherwise, we can’t just. Citizens just can’t carry … no you can’t get it, not in New Jersey. No. Won’t happen here.”

Alex Roubian, President of the NJ 2D Amendment Society said “That’s the constant theme in all of our videos … tyranny.”

The Second Amendment Society says it’s found widespread delays and denials of gun permits in the Garden State of police departments stalling and complicating the process. But, Chief Chris Wagner, the head of the state police chiefs’ association says not so, “I couldn’t disagree with them more on that.”

Chief Wagner says police chiefs are just following the law and doing due diligence, “There are police chiefs that vary on the matter and there are some chiefs of police that feel very strongly that contrary to the statute, more people should have the ability to have firearms.”

The Orange detective sergeant says his police chief is on the same page when it comes to approving or disapproving permits to buy or carry a handgun in his township and that he hasn’t lost an appeal to a judge. “Chief is not going to disagree with me.”

Orange’s City Attorney says he’s investigating the hidden camera recording and declined to comment on what the officer says or how he processes gun permit applications. In the meantime, the New Jersey Second Amendment Society is preparing to release recordings of other police departments and others in the judicial system who decide who gets a gun.
