Nevada Self-Defense: Pokemon Go Players Exchange Gunfire With Real Life Monsters :: 07/27/2016
Authorities in Las Vegas, NV say a group of Pokemon Go players was attacked by a different kind of monster – armed robbers.
Police spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said the incident unfolded in Gary Reese Freedom Park shortly after 4 a.m. Monday morning. The group of six gamers were hunting down Pokemon monsters when an SUV drove up to the group. An armed man and a juvenile inside the vehicle demanded the players’ possessions at gunpoint.
Fortunately, one of the group’s players was packing more than a Pikachu. The player, who has a permit to carry, drew his gun and shot at the armed robbers, who then shot back.
One man in the group of players was treated for a gunshot wound at University Medical Center and is expected to recover.
Police identified the SUV when the suspect was also dropped off at UMC by his accomplice after suffering a nonlife-threatening gunshot wound in the shootout. Both suspects were arrested.
Elvis Campos, 18, was arrested on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, battery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and assault with a deadly weapon, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement. Police said Campos’ accomplice is a juvenile, therefore his name is not being released.
