MSNBC Asks Why Americans Should Be 'Allowed' to Have Guns, Then Mika Drops a HILARIOUS Line :: 10/08/2015

Mika Brzenzinski is one of those people who is always entertaining to listen to, no matter if you’re a liberal or a conservative. In a passionate line about guns in America, she “may” have gone just a bit too far.

When a “Morning Joe” segment pivoted from Hillary Clinton’s “common sense” ™ solutions to gun violence in America to a running diatribe about firearms, and it just became a digression from one bit of misinformation to the next.

At about ten minutes into this extended clip, Mika really wants to make it known to Joe Scarborough, Mike Barnicle, Eugene Robinson, and the breathless audience at home why people shouldn’t be allowed to have certain firearms. Via Hot Air:

Joe: I don’t understand, we actually have… I mean the same thing happened at Sandy Hook. And I will say, there is a huge responsibility. We talk about parental responsibility but there’s a parental responsibility. You can go all the way back to Columbine, when your children are acting the way that they’re acting under your own roof…

Mika: I don’t understand why we need these weapons… Can’t the government say that it’s inappropriate to have these massively powerful weapons? I mean, I would like to have an elephant in my house. I don’t think I’d be allowed. Would I? Would I be allowed to go to Africa and get a giraffe and bring it? There are rules against these things. I know it sounds ridiculous. But there are things we’re not allowed to have. Why are we allowed to have these weapons that blow up… literally blow up animals if you were hunting with them?

“Literally” blowing up animals? An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle? For those following along at home, here is a video of a girl shooting an AR-15:

(No animals were harmed in the making of this video.)

Okay, so let’s put automatic weapons aside in this discussion, just briefly mentioning they are heavily regulated in the U.S, and focus on the weapons the Oregon shooter actually used.

In addition to the handguns that Harper-Mercer carried during his despicable crime, there was an “AR-15.”

The actual weapon, a Del-Ton 5.56x45mm AR-15 Carbine, is a semi-automatic rifle, differing from other rifles mainly because it looks scary like an M-16, which has selective fire for three-round-burst and fully auto.

FBI statistics for 2014 show the homicides committed by all rifles come to 248 murders in the entire year. Let that sink in for a moment.

Here is a summary chart of the trend running up to 2014:

FBI-Murder-Victims-2013

Not a single year do the murders by all rifles amount to over 367 per year, and as a side note, they are on par with shotguns, which Vice President Joe Biden recommended people buy instead of rifles.

In fact, the number of homicides committed by hands and feet in 2014 was 660 – surpassing by more than double those committed by all rifles combined.

Of course, a “common sense solution” doesn’t entail putting everyone in handcuffs and leg shackles.

For further context, five times more Americans die from knives and cutting instruments than from rifle murders, and you won’t be seeing politicians calling for a ban on knives.

Well, probably not.

Referring back to the “Morning Joe” segment, that isn’t to say that Americans should do nothing to stop mass shootings, but perhaps “gun free zones” and disarmed citizens only make it easier for a mass shooter to achieve his goal of killing ruthlessly without fear of retaliation.
