Michigan Self-Defense: Man arrested after leading police on wild chase through 3 counties :: 03/05/2019

A 31-year-old Brown City man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after police say he led them on a pursuit through three mid-Michigan counties.

A fugitive was spotted in a vehicle around 3:40 p.m. March 5 near Brown City. Deputies with the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office came to the assistance of Brown City police to apprehend the suspect.

The man pulled a knife out and held it to his own throat from inside the vehicle, police said.

Deputies were able to remove a female driver and a male passenger from the vehicle.

But when they attempted to get the man to put the knife down, he began to swing it at deputies, police said. Attempts to use a Taser on him were “ineffective,” according to a statement from the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office.

He then fled in the vehicle, which belonged to the woman.

Sanilac County deputies pursued him into Lapeer County, then into Tuscola County. The man eventually rammed a patrol vehicle and drove into a field where he got stuck, according to police.

The man then fled on foot and entered a Frankenmuth Road home where he tried to steal a car, but was confronted by the homeowner with a gun.

Deputies with the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office were eventually able to arrest the man, whose name has not been released, and transport him to the Tuscola County Jail where he remains in custody pending formal charges.

Sanilac County Sheriff’s Deputies and Brown City Police were assisted by Sanilac Central Dispatch, Sanilac County Drug Task Force, Lapeer County Sheriff, MSP Caro and the Tuscola County Sheriff’s Office.
