Maryland Self-Defense: Two men, a gun and my girl: Glen Burnie man shoots intruder, police say :: 11/07/2019

Homeowner Thomas Fisher of Glen Burnie says he shot a suspect that entered his home and attacked his fiancee.

Police are investigating a shooting at a Glen Burnie home where a man said he shot one of two men who had entered his house and attacked his fianceé. The suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

At about 7:30 a.m. police responded to the 700 block of Nabbs Creek in Glen Burnie for reports of a home invasion and shooting, police said. A man was tending to his chickens when he heard a commotion and went to check on his wife, police said. Thomas Fisher, the homeowner, later said it was his fiancee.

Fisher said he was outside feeding his chickens when he heard his French bulldog, Wesley, frantically barking.

“I pushed open the front door and noticed two gentlemen inside my house holding down my girlfriend," Fisher said.

Fisher said he then slammed open the door, grabbed a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with buckshot and chased the two men outside where he shot one of the suspects in his legs. The other suspect ran from the house and is being pursued by police, who said they may know his identity.

“I didn’t want to kill him. I could not live with that on my mind,” Fisher said.

It is believed the attack was targeted and all four individuals know each other, said Sgt. Jackie Davis, a police spokeswoman.

But homeowner Fisher said he does not know the two men that entered his house this morning, whom Fisher said were white and in their 30s, and that the men had a silver gun and a large knife. Fisher said he shot the man with an old antique shotgun from 1940 he had “in case anything ever happens.”

Fisher said when he entered his house he saw “two men, a gun and my girl.” His fianceé, 28, was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. The injured suspected is also in the hospital.

Lillian Wagner, 23, said she was asleep on the second floor of her house and woke up to gunshots.

“I heard two gunshots but people shoot guns off around here all the time so I just thought someone was just being stupid early in the morning and I didn’t really think too much of it until there was police and dogs around my house," she said.

She said people hunt in the area and that it’s a good neighborhood that doesn’t usually have many problems. “It never crossed my mind that someone would be in trouble around here.”
