Lynch: 'No one is safe' from gun violence :: 09/03/2015

Prompted by several recent high-profile shootings this year, which included the deaths of two TV journalists in Virginia and four police officers in Texas and Illinois, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Wednesday condemned the violence and said she and the Justice Department will work to end it.

“We have seen violence strike at all segments of our community,” Lynch said in the opening of her speech delivered at the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Fair Housing Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. “It is a sad fact now that no one is safe.”

Lynch announced plans to meet with other law enforcement officials from across the country later this month at a summit in Detroit to discuss possible solutions “to discuss the strategies to end this uptick in violent crime and to help prevent this from occurring.”

Working toward that end, the DOJ’s Violence Reduction Network launched last year under then Attorney General Eric Holder as a way to bring law enforcement agencies across the country together to analyze each major city’s violent crime cases and share best practices.
