Louisiana Self-Defense: Men stop, pull gun on alleged kidnapper in Natchitoches Parish :: 02/28/2019

Two men helped to rescue a woman, one pulling a gun on her alleged kidnapper Wednesday morning in Natchitoches Parish, according to a release.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff's Office arrested Clydell Lee Jefferson Jr., 41, after he turned himself in to the Red River Parish Sheriff's Office around noon. He remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center without bond on charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault.

A release states that Jefferson had given the victim, described as his domestic partner, a ride to a bank. But the two got into an argument, and Jefferson allegedly used a shock device on the woman and bound her hands with zip ties.

She was able to escape him not long after. However, he shocked her again and tightened the ties, reads the release.

Jefferson then drove toward Campti and to La. Highway 9, "where she believed she was being taken to a remote location and feared for her life," it reads

She escaped the Chevrolet pickup truck again near the intersection of La. 9 and Hart Road, leading to a struggle between the two on the side of the road. Two men passing by saw the struggle and stopped, and the victim was able to run to their vehicle.

"One of the concerned citizens produced a handgun for protection, causing the suspect to flee the area," it reads.

Their call to 911 was received about 9:58 a.m., starting a search for Jefferson and the truck. After being notified that Jefferson was in custody, deputies drove to bring him back to Natchitoches Parish.

According to the release, Jefferson confessed to kidnapping the woman. A stun device was seized during the investigation, it reads.

Natchitoches Sheriff Victor Jones Jr. commended the two men who stopped to help the woman.

"Domestic incidents are one of the leading causes of injury and death to women, without the swift action of these two men the outcome of this situation may have been much worse," he stated in the release. "We thank you for your actions and good job."
