A 54-year-old man is expected to face charges after he pointed a revolver at another man who then shot him in self-defense following an argument Easter Sunday in the St. Roch neighborhood, New Orleans police said in a preliminary report.

Police did not say why the man to be charged, Cornell Brown, and a 68-year-old man were arguing with each other Sunday night (April 16). But about 8:25 p.m., Brown left the 1200 block of Spain Street only to return with a revolver, which police said he pointed at the older man.

In response, the older man pulled out a gun and shot Brown in the right forearm, police said. Brown was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said, and is expected to be arrested and booked with aggravated assault. The shooter is believed to have fired in self-defense, police said.

It was one of two shootings reported to police Easter Sunday. At nearly the same time as the St. Roch shooting, an about a mile-and-a-half away, a 23-year-old man was at a block party in the 2300 block of Allen Street when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot, NOPD said. He was taken by EMS to an area hospital for treatment.
