Loretta Lynch: What difference does it make whom Obama picks? :: 04/23/2015
On Tuesday, Senator Mitch McConnell announced that the U.S. Senate is likely to vote “in the next day or two” on the nomination of Loretta Lynch to be attorney general. After both sides sparred for months over the abortion language in a sex-trafficking bill, a deal was struck Tuesday morning clearing the way for Lynch's confirmation vote.
With Republican Sens. Orrin Hatch (Utah), Lindsey Graham (S.C.), Jeff Flake (Ariz.), Mark Kirk (Ill.), and Susan Collins (Maine).all supporting Lynch, she will clinch the 51 votes needed for confirmation.
But what difference does it make whether it's Lynch or another Obama nominee?
Why would anyone expect the next attorney general to act contrary to the stated policy of her boss?
Only clueless, star-struck Republicans think Lynch is her own person despite the fact she holds the same views on immigration, voter ID, and civil rights issues as Eric Holder. On Sunday Rep. Peter King stated, "All you’ve heard from our party for a very long time is how much contempt they have for [current attorney general Eric] Holder[.] ... Now they’re presented with Loretta Lynch, who is by far the best attorney general they could ever have expected this president to appoint."
Rep. King is confused. Lynch and Holder are interchangeable – she'll just have the advantage of not being the first AG to be held in contempt of Congress or who helped facilitate a gun-trafficking operation that led to the deaths of American law enforcement personnel and hundreds of Mexican nationals. Given enough time, Lynch may rack up her own list of contemptible, unconstitutional operations as head of the DOJ. Who knows?
If Lynch is willing to testify that Obama's executive action deferring the deportation of 5 million illegal aliens is legal and "reasonable," she will certainly have no problem supporting Obama's anti-Second Amendment agenda.
When it comes to race, Lynch is as bad as her predecessor. She has already stated that voter ID laws disenfranchise minorities. Lynch also believes that school discipline policies and zero-tolerance programs "are often used [to] take our babies, minority children, black children, Hispanic children, and they put them out of school before they have a chance to learn." In the same speech, she lauded the Justice Department for going "into the South, although we’re looking further, and brought the first ... 'school-to-prison pipeline' cases against school districts in Alabama."
The only white people Lynch seems to have any affinity for or loyalty to are those flush with cash. Reports indicate that Lynch, as a U.S. attorney in New York, played a role in the Obama administration's decision not to prosecute the international mega-bank HSBC after it was discovered they were involved in money-laundering for Mexican drug cartels and Middle Eastern terrorists. The bank paid out $1.9 billion in fines, which, according to a whistleblower, was a "joke." Lynch also spearheaded the investigation into Citigroup's role in the mortgage crisis, which landed the Justice Department $7 billion in fines but no prosecutions.
Lynch may have a killer resume, but so do a lot of corrupt people. She's just like the rest. Nothing new with this pick. Anybody else Obama chose would be just as elitist, race-obsessed, radical, and dangerous as Lynch.
