Kentucky Self-Defense: Man who shot at Kroger shooting suspect not expected to face charges :: 10/25/2018

The individual who exhanged gunfire with the suspect arrested in connection with Wednesday's high-profile shootings at the Jeffersontown Kroger is not expected to face any charges, police officials have confirmed.

Jeffersontown Police Chief Sam Rogers made the announcement at a news conference Thursday, one day after two people were killed at the grocery store in east Louisville.

"At this point, we don't ... anticipate any criminal charges being levied against him for his actions," Rogers said Thursday.

Rogers added he was not currently sure about how many shots the citizen fired in the Kroger parking lot during the exchange.

The police chief clarified that no one was injured during the back-and-forth shooting – the woman killed in the parking lot was shot by the suspect before the exchange began, Rogers said.

The suspect in the shooting, Gregory Bush, has been charged with two counts of murder and 10 counts of wanton endangerment for his alleged role in Wednesday's shootings. Two people – Maurice Stallard, 69, and Vickie Jones, 67 – were killed at the scene.

Stallard and Jones are African-American. Bush, who is white, is alleged to have said "don't shoot me. I won't shoot you. Whites don't shoot whites," to another man who approached him with a gun in the parking lot.

Bush was later arrested near the scene on Hurstbourne Parkway. His bond has been set at $5 million.
