Joe Biden: Second Amendment 'Doesn't Say You Can Own An F-15 With Hellfire Missiles' :: 10/03/2015
Vice President Joe Biden is using some dramatic rhetoric in reaction to the Oregon college shooting yesterday, claiming there are limitations to the Second Amendment.
“The Second Amendment doesn’t say you can own a bazooka, it doesn’t say you can own an F-15 with Hellfire missiles,” he said. “It gives the ability of the government to limit type of weapon that is available.”
Biden made his remarks last night at the Concordia Summit in New York City, calling for passage of more gun control, even after admitting that he didn’t even know what weapons were involved in the shooting.
“My guess is, I’m prepared to bet you that it was a semi-automatic or an automatic weapon, I don’t know that yet,” he said.
Biden also called for passage on his proposal for more background checks for all gun sales in America after the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.
“We’re basically the only civilized country in the world where we have these massive murders, in our countries,” he said.
Biden, who is weighing a run for president, has spent a lot of time arguing on behalf of the Obama administration for more gun control. After the Sandy Hook shootings, he encouraged everyone to buy a shotgun for home defense instead of owning an assault rifle.
During his speech last night, Biden reminded the audience that his wife was a teacher in a community college, pointing out that the college shooting in Oregon made it personal.
“It brings home every time something happens in a school just how the safest place on earth should be – our schools and our colleges,” he said.
