Iowa the 19th State to Push Back Against Biden Gun Control :: 04/05/2021

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds signed into law on Good Friday the latest manifestation of the pushback against federal tyranny taking place across the land. The instant issue is “constitutional carry” — the freedom to enjoy a right without first being required to obtain governmental permission to do so — but the larger issue is this: People belonging to the Country Class are getting sick and tired of the Ruling Class and its condescension and its imposition of its tyrannical agenda.

The new state law, which becomes effective on July 1, allows Iowans to purchase a handgun from private sources without obtaining permission first, and further, to carry it on their person, also without first having to get governmental permission.

Said Reynolds:

Today I signed legislation that protects the 2nd Amendment rights of Iowa’s law-abiding citizens….

We will never be able to outlaw or prevent every single bad actor from getting a gun, but what we can do is ensure [that] law-abiding citizens have full access to their constitutional rights.

Iowa joins 18 other states — Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming — who allow their citizens to exercise the right guaranteed in the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights without asking permission of their state governments first.

Mark Olivia, the director of public affairs at the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), put it well:

Your permit is your Second Amendment right. The idea of having to get a permit to be able to exercise your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is antithetical to what your rights are as an American at birth.

In a sense, the Iowa legislature and governor are reflecting the increasing frustration by the state’s sovereign citizens over the Ruling Class in Washington D.C. telling Iowans what they may or may not do.

Boston University professor emeritus Angelo Codevilla pointed out the incursions into precious rights committed by what he called “The Ruling Class” in his 2010 book of that title. He pointed out that that class — “the group of bipartisan political elites who run America, this Ruling Class, has everything to gain by raising taxes and expanding the reach of government”, adding:

This class maintains that it knows what is best and continually increases its power over every facet of American life, from family and marriage to the environment, guns, and God.

This review of the book continues:

Millions of Americans are now reasserting our right to obey the Constitution [and] not the Ruling Class….

The majority of Americans feel that the Ruling Class is demeaning us, impoverishing use, demoralizing us, and [they] want to be rid of it.

In his latest article, “American Exodus,” Codevilla explains that the Ruling Class is in danger of overextending itself in its rush to tyranny, and they’re worried:

These oligarchs worry that what they gained [in the 2020 election] is only “a respite” and not a permanent hold over Americans….

The general population’s compliance with [its continued abuse of the Constitution isn’t permanent].

That is because isolating and alienating anybody, let alone half the country, is the proverbial two-edged sword. Anytime you isolate and alienate someone else you do the same to yourself.… Ruling people by insulting and harming them is problematic.

In Iowa, legislators and the governor are posing the solution to the problem of governmental overreach from Washington: passing a law that directly and emphatically opposes the federal tyranny when it comes to gun control. The new law is a slap in the face of those oligarchs who are certain that they know what is best for the Country Class, especially when it comes to the Second Amendment.

There are 18 other states whose electorates have also issued the same decree: Leave us alone! We will not follow your dictates!

Nineteen states is a good start, but the question remains: When will the citizens in other states reflect the same alienation and force their representatives to push back against the encroaching federal tyranny?
