Indiana Self-Defense: Homeowner Holds Thief, Alleged Hit-and-Run Suspect at Gunpoint :: 05/03/2016

I love when liberals say concealed carry citizens can’t take control of a situation or stop any crimes.

Cuz lookie here: in Indiana this weekend, a driver accused of fleeing the scene of an accident on Interstate 64 was arrested after a homeowner held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

Floyd County Sheriff’s officers responded to reports that a car traveling eastbound on I-64 had rolled over around 5 p.m. Saturday, according to the police report. When police arrived, they observed a Toyota Tacoma that appeared to have flipped over a barrier into the westbound lane.

Police learned that the driver of the Tacoma had fled the scene after the crash. They soon discovered that the car had been reported stolen out of Louisville.

Meanwhile, a homeowner in the 1000 block of Hidden Hollow near the crash scene heard reports that police were looking for a suspect. The homeowner went into his garage to get his car keys that he often leaves inside his car, according to the report.

When he walked into the garage, the homeowner “immediately notice[d] that several items” in the garage were not in their proper place and became suspicious. He looked toward his parked car and that’s when the homeowner saw 23-year-old Cody Sullivan, Louisville, sitting in the front seat with the keys in the ignition.

The homeowner later told police that he drew his gun and ordered Sullivan to get out of the car. It took a few moments for Sullivan to comply, but he eventually got out of the car and sat on the ground, according to the report.

The homeowner’s wife called police and Sullivan was later taken into custody. A gas can, two leaf blowers and other items belonging to the homeowner that were reportedly in the garage prior to the incident were found inside the car.

Sullivan was booked into the Floyd County Jail on a $150,000 cash-surety bond and is preliminarily charged with leaving the scene of an accident, possession of stolen property, burglary, theft and attempted auto theft.
