Indiana Self-Defense: Charges not expected after fatal double shooting in Muncie :: 04/15/2016
MUNCIE, Ind. (April 15, 2016) - Two men were shot Thursday evening in Muncie after police say an ongoing feud turned deadly.
They’ve been identified as 21-year-old Vincent Wolfe, who died, and his cousin, 25-year-old Rondell Wolfe, who is expected to survive.
Police say the unidentified suspect in the shooting was questioned and released. They say that man acted in self-defense and will likely not be charged.
“We’ve got to get to the point where we don’t pick up a gun to solve our problems,” said Chief Steve Stewart with the Muncie Police Department. “We’ve got to be able to talk to each other, and I think that starts at a very, very young age.”
Police say the Wolfe cousins followed the shooter from a gas station to where the shooting happened.
Family members of the shooter also said tensions between the three men had been building for some time.
“When you’ve got beef with somebody and you don’t have words for a long time and you finally get a chance to be face to face and that close, somebody was going to die,” said Barnell Vance, a relative of the shooter.
Now, Muncie Police say they are worried about retaliation and have increased patrols where the shootings happened.
Thursday evening, Reverend Charles Harrison with the Indy Ten Point Coalition tweeted, “I just got a call from some leaders n Muncie & they want me 2 come 2 Muncie next wk 2 help them organizing a @Indytenpoint.”
