If This Firearms Legislation Goes Through, Legal Gun Owners Will No Longer Be 'Silenced' :: 10/24/2015

A new bill aimed at loosening restrictions on firearm suppressors is making its way through Congress in an effort to slightly expand the scope and strength of the 2nd Amendment.

The Hearing Protection Act of 2015, sponsored by Rep. Matt Salmon R-Ariz., would eradicate a $200 tax stamp for suppressors. The legislation would also remove the suppressors from restraints set forth by National Firearms Act.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) endorsed the legislation on Thursday in a statement from Chris Cox, the executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action:

“Suppressors significantly reduce the chance of hearing loss for anyone who enjoys the shooting sports. On behalf of the NRA and our 5 million members, I want to thank Rep. Salmon for his leadership on this important bill.”

Further, Salmon’s bill also earned the support of the American Suppressor Association because:

“citizens should not have to pay a tax to protect their hearing while exercising their Second Amendment rights.”

The 2015 HPA is in line with American trends as well. According to Guns.com, National Firearms Act registered suppressors have increased tenfold in the past year.

As of 2015, only 41 states permit the private ownership of suppressors.

The Hearing Protection Act, should it become law, would be yet another big win for gun rights advocates in the later half of 2015.
