Gun-grabber bill aims to make criminals of private gun sellers; social media fires back :: 09/10/2015

A gun-grabbing Democrat senator is taking new aim at private citizens who sell guns — trying to turn them  into criminals if a gun buyer turns out to be prohibited from owning a weapon.

U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., proposed the bill Tuesday, using the broadcast killings of a television reporter and cameraman in August to try to justify handing out criminal penalties to private sellers of firearms.

Speaking on the Senate floor, Kaine, who won the governor’s office in 2005 casting himself as a Second Amendment supporter, brought up the Aug. 26 killings of journalists Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who worked for WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia.

“As recent tragedies in Virginia and across the country have shown, the gun laws in our country have done little to stem senseless gun violence,” he said.

Kaine’s Responsible Transfer of Firearms Act would require a private seller to take “reasonable steps” to determine that the potential buyer is not prohibited from legally purchasing a gun or face criminal consequences, though the consequences aren’t defined.

“Ultimately, efforts to reduce gun violence must focus on multiple solutions,” Kaine said, echoing the usual line of argument to hide the gun-grabbers’ agenda. “But this act is a step in the right direction.”

It’s only the right direction if the goal is getting rid of the Second Amendment.
