Gun Sense Vermont and Bloomberg's Everytown spend big but still lose gun fight :: 04/29/2015

Gun control groups, including Gun Sense Vermont and Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety, blew big bucks on anti-gun legislation in Vermont in recent months but have little to show for it.

According to lobbyist disclosure statements available through the secretary of state’s lobbyist database, Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund spent $77,568 on anti-gun legislation between Jan. 1 and March 31. The New York City group paid $65,818 for advertising and another $10,133 on two lobbyists.

During the same reporting period, Gun Sense Vermont spent $51,779. That cash, which includes a $41,431 spend on lobbyist compensation and another $9,401 on advertising, follows two large payments of $39,000 to powerhouse lobbying firm Necrason Group in 2014.

Since the universal background check campaign was announced last spring, the two groups spent a combined total of $207,000 on lobbyists, advertising and other expenditures.
