FOAC Member: LTE: Ideology disguised as news is propaganda :: 04/22/2019

Again, the staff at The Intelligencer fails to report news. It does report opinion and ideology as news — but that is far below the calling of any reputable organization. Four articles within the last two months clearly show this as fact:

Number one: Feb. 15, “On Parkland anniversary, lawmakers tout safe gun bills.”

Number two: March 8, “Officials: Gun locks, ‘red flag’ bills could help families vulnerable to violence.”

Number three: April 8, “Anti-gun violence activists chase new bill in Pennsylvania.”

Number four: April 14, “Stephen’s bill targets gun suicide prevention.”

Each of these articles quoted members of two virulent anti-gun groups — Moms Demand Action and Everytown for Gun Safety. Yet, there was apparently not even the attempt to gather one single statement from any opposing organization.

There are several organizations operating in Pennsylvania that would be ideal to contact for comparative and contrasting information. In order: Firearm Owners Against Crime — www.foac-pac.org — Gun Owners of America, and even as a last resort, the NRA. I know the first, FOAC, would be very willing to go on the record in opposition to these bills, citing specific and critical flaws in each, yet no attempt has been made to reach them.

Is this the pattern we should expect — ideology disguised as news? Regardless of which side of the issue you may fall, providing only one side of a story is propaganda, not news.
