Florida Self-Defense: Man leads deputies on foot chase, is stopped at gunpoint by homeowner :: 12/12/2016
An East Naples man fled from deputies first using a bicycle and then on foot before a homeowner stopped him at gunpoint, according to the Collier County Sheriff's Office.
Yvence Fortin, 22, was arrested Thursday and faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting a law enforcement officer without violence and a felony charge of fleeing and eluding. He also has an outstanding warrant for a felony charge of robbery with a firearm in Lee County, according to an arrest report.
Deputies observed Fortin riding a bicycle shortly after 11 a.m. when he failed to stop at a stop sign at 24th Avenue and Hunter Boulevard, the report stated.
When deputies turned on the patrol car's emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, Fortin turned his head around, saw the lights and continued to ride his bicycle north of Hunter Boulevard. He eventually rode his bicycle through the backyard of a home on Hunter Boulevard in an attempt to flee from the deputies, according to the report.
Deputies started chasing Fortin on foot. They saw him jump the fence of a home on 51st Terrace Southwest before they found that a homeowner in the backyard had stopped Fortin at gunpoint.
Fortin was taken to the Naples Jail Center.
Since 2013, Fortin has been arrested five times and has faced charges ranging from marijuana and cocaine possession to driving with a suspended license, arrest records show.
