No injuries were reported after the incident, which happened about 6:40 p.m. on Peter Green Road, they said.

According to police, the homeowner arrived at his house to find an unfamiliar pickup truck parked in his driveway, backed up near the garage. A woman he didn’t know was in the passenger seat. When the homeowner asked what she was doing, she said she and the driver were lost and looking for directions from the homeowner’s neighbor.

The homeowner then heard a noise behind him, and when he turned around he saw a man running toward him with something in his hand. Fearing for his safety, the homeowner pulled his handgun and fired at the stranger. He owns the gun legally, police said.

When troopers searched the property, they found that the house’s rear, sliding-glass door was smashed in.

The truck is described as a full-sized, late-model, dark pickup, possibly a Dodge, with four doors and possibly an extended cab. The truck had a large plastic barrel in its bed.

Anyone who thinks he or she may have any information about the crime or burglars is asked to call Det. Michael Hoague at 860-896-3236, Troop C 860-896-3200 or text TIP711 with any information to 274637.
