Child demanding entrance to gallery captivates 'Freedom Knocks' activists :: 02/10/2015

“That looked like a waste of time and effort. All they did was lock the doors," an anonymous troll on the Sipsey Street Irregulars blog posted in comments underneath the text of Mike Vanderboegh’s Saturday speech at the State Capitol in Olympia. It was an obvious attempt to either diminish the significance of government officials hiding from freedom activists, or to put his own ignorance on display. That the significance of the day is lost on him is not surprising.

Neither would it be surprising to learn it’s not lost, and that the anonymous put-down was as much an act of sabotage as his courage permits. That’s in character with the sadist /psychopath / infiltrator / disruptor nature of those who abuse the marvel that is the internet by attacking others from the shadows, seemingly protected from all personal repercussions but the corruption they do to their own souls. The character of those who proudly advocate for their rights, assuming risks of condemnation and worse from lesser men, including those with power posing as greater men, was on display as activists, accompanied by politically courageous representatives Elizabeth Scott and Matt Shea, marched through the Capitol halls determined to make their voices heard, even as those who feared their message foolishly presumed locked doors could stop the signal.

While those trying to steal that to which they have no claim would not face and address fed-up constituents, they still were not able to avoid being put on notice, as demonstrators knocked firmly on massive wooden doors, and called to be let in. In a move some have likened to Martin Luther nailing his Ninety-Five Theses against clerical abuses to the church doors in Wittenburg, an act many -- who could not foresee what a transformative event that would be a catalyst for -- dismissed as extremist and insignificant, the protesters affixed their list of grievances to the House Gallery doors.

It was from this scene that a remarkable, unifying, charmingly captivating and inspirational act happened. A little girl, a six-year-old appropriately named Faith, came forward on her own, rapped on massive doors that dwarfed her, and cried “Freedom knocking!” to the delight and applause of all.

“A young girl provides a moment of stunning drama,” Vanderboegh noted on Sipsey Street Irregulars, noting the spontaneous nature of what followed. “I hope that the designated videographer got that moment, because if so it will likely go viral.”

“Out of nowhere ... Faith walked up to the door on her own,” activist and event organize Kit Lange recalled on The Patrick Henry Society blog. “As her tiny fist pounded at the bottom of the door, her young voice rang out in the quiet hallway.

“[S]he called out, and her voice reminded us all of the incredible gravity of this situation, the weight on our shoulders,” Lange acknowledged. “I thought of how this precious child would have to bleed for her own liberty if we fail, if we refuse to stand.”

“Faith stepped up to the doors of the Washington State Legislature Saturday showing no signs of fear,” another observer, Doug Parris at The ReaganWing.com observed. “It was eerie. Faith is six years old. The Movement is well over 200.”

“That precious baby girl walked boldly up to those giant doors, and with those tiny hands knocked so quietly, and yet the sounds of those knocks could be heard across the nation,” another event organizer, Maria Bosworth, related via email. “With those words ... a tiny voice melted the hearts of grown men and brought tears to the masses who understood what that moment signified! I pray that those who are listening will hear the message that this little girl represents! We are duty bound to fight and stand the line for children such as this!”

Freedom is knocking. It is demanding being recognized. It will not be locked out. And this is just the beginning. Like Faith, it is growing.

A video of the entire grievance delivery process, from entering the building, to going to the House Gallery, then to the Governor’s Office, and ending up at the guard booth at the gates of the Governor’s Mansion with heads bowed in prayer, is embedded above. Faith’s “a child shall lead them” moment begins at 4:28.
