Cape Coral man stops drugged-out teen from home burglary :: 08/16/2017
A Cape Coral teen, fueled by drugs, is accused of terrorizing his neighborhood, landing him on the wrong end of a gun and a Taser.
Cape Coral Police said Tuan Nguyen broke into two homes near Diplomat Parkway Sunday evening.
NBC2 spoke with a victim who caught the teen in the act and held him at gunpoint until police came.
Nguyen is still in jail on a $53,000 bond. He's facing a slew of burglary and assault charges for his rampage on Northeast 18th Place.
One of his victims, a Cape Coral resident who wants remain anonymous, said Nguyen had to be stopped, and the only way he knew how was by threatening him with a gun.
"He tried breaking into the house. He broke the window. I didn't know until my mother-in-law told me what was going on. Some crazy guy going around the house,” the victim said.
A broken window and bent light pole make up the trail Tuan Nguyen's victims said he left behind at two homes.
The first victim acted quickly to protect his wife and two-year old son inside his home.
"Then I grabbed my gun and went outside to see what was going on. I went outside, and my father-in-law was arriving too, and we both stopped him," he said.
The victim held Nguyen at gunpoint until police came. He tried asking him questions, but Nguyen seemed disoriented and confused.
"'Where are you from? Who are you?' You know, 'Stay right there, don't move,' and I was on the phone with the police too," the victim said.
Nguyen fought back at police officers and eventually they had to use a Taser on him.
"The police arrived very quick. He resisted them, but he didn’t know what was going on," the victim said. "He was I think on drugs. I asked him, 'Are you high?' And then he said yes. That's all."
Police said the teen was on LSD.
"If you're under the influence of drugs, you're going to do anything stupid anyway.," said nearby homeowner, Jessie Cadena. "That's where you started off wrong."
People who live on the street support the victim pulling a gun on Nguyen.
"I'd have zip-tied him to the ground and held him too. Good job!" Cadena said.
NBC2 spoke with Nguyen's mother at their home across the street from both victims.
She said she doesn't think her son was on drugs, but he was home alone when this happened.
She said she did attempt to apologize to neighbors today, but they weren’t home.
