Bloomberg Behind Misleading Anti-Gun Ads In Mississippi, NRA Says :: 03/17/2016
An out-of-state gun control group called Everytown for Gun Safety is spending tens of thousands of dollars on a misinformation campaign against pro-Second Amendment legislation in Mississippi that would enhance law-abiding citizens' ability to protect themselves. The man behind this manufactured opposition is billionaire and former New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg.
Yes, the same Bloomberg who tried to prohibit large sodas in the Big Apple has now set his sights on restricting your self-defense rights in the State Capitol.
The irony is that he pursues this goal from his posh urban residence up north, insulated by a swath of armed guards he pays to protect him.
The legislation Bloomberg is attempting to mislead the public about is House Bill 786, a measure that makes important clarifications to the state's concealed carry law. The Bloomberg ads falsely claim that the bill would "dismantle" Mississippi law and let "some violent criminals" carry hidden firearms in public.
That lie is about as large as the Big Gulps he has tried to ban.
Criminals who are prohibited from possessing firearms are still barred from carrying firearms under HB 786. HB 786 will not prevent enforcement of any laws broken by criminals who misuse firearms. HB 786 does not repeal the existing enhanced or regular concealed carry permit laws. Law-abiding Mississippians may already carry their personal protection firearm in a handbag, briefcase or other fully enclosed case without a government-issued permit. This bill makes it clear that "fully enclosed case" can also mean a belt or a shoulder holster.
The danger lies not with this legislation, but with the real agenda of this nation's leading gun control advocate. He supports bans on semi-automatic rifles commonly-owned and used for hunting.
He wants you to get permission from the federal government before you give your firearm to a close friend or family member.
And he seeks more, not less, restrictions on your right to self-defense.
Mississippians value their Second Amendment freedoms.
Let your elected officials know that Michael Bloomberg doesn't represent Mississippi values when it comes to your right to protect yourself and your family.
