Armed Citizen Makes Strong Case Why the Second Amendment Makes Everyone Safer :: 05/11/2015

On Tuesday afternoon, rookie Oklahoma City police officer, Adam Eller, and his training officer, Sgt. Michael Lambert, were responding to a burglary call when they got separated chasing the fleeing suspects.

The following day, officer Eller was released from Oklahoma University hospital after severe gashes on his head were treated – injuries suffered in pursuit of the suspect – but the rookie policeman was lucky to leave this crime scene with his life.

Jemaine Williams was responsible for Eller’s hospitalization, and he and his brother Tremaine are the primary suspects involved in the burglary. Despite their best efforts to get away, both were booked into the Oklahoma City County Jail Tuesday night.

According to local News9, upon arriving at 2800 W. Park Place around 2pm, Eller took off after Jermaine Williams, and had lost sight of his partner by the time he caught up to the suspect in the driveway of a nearby home.

Eller then attempted to arrest Williams singlehandedly, but Williams resisted with force. During the consequent struggle, Williams took the baton from the officer and struck him on the head between six and twelve times.

According to reports, it was then that an armed bystander witnessing the ongoing struggle intervened. Gun drawn, the unidentified citizen approached the scene and threatened to shoot Williams if he did not stop hitting officer Eller.

If Williams made one smart move on that day, it was following those orders. As a result, the city and its law enforcement agency have an unidentified, arms-bearing citizen to thank for the arrest of the Williams brothers.
