Arizona Shooting: Jack in the Box Drive-Thru Employee Shot :: 10/16/2014

Jack in the Box restaurants, who earlier this year asked patrons to leave their firearms at home (although they did not outright ban guns) is learning that criminals rarely follow laws, let alone corporate requests.

According to local media reports, a drive-thru employee at a 24 hour Jack in the Box restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona was shot by one of three suspects who walked up to the drive-thru window and indiscriminately opened fire.

According to Fox Phoenix,

The victim was working the 24-hour drive-thru when surveillance video shows three suspects creeping up to the window. In the video, a man in a plaid shirt pulls out a gun and fires right into the glass.

"It is very brazen to walk up to the window like that, not knowing who is around or what is going on," said Lt. Jeff Pierce.

Authorities say the employee, a man in his 20's, on the other side of the window and was shot in the left arm. He managed to call 9-1-1 after all three ran away.

The victim was walking and talking when police arrived; he was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

After a brief standoff with police officer at a nearby home, the suspect who fired the shot killed himself.

We certainly aren't trying to say that Jack in the Box's policy caused this to happen, but it does illustrate how futile and useless all of these corporate requests are to stopping bad guys from bringing guns to these businesses.

Earlier this year, following pressure from the Bloomberg funded anti-gun group, Moms Demand Action, Jack in the Box issued the following statement:

Creating a warm and inviting environment for all of our guests and employees is a top priority for Jack in the Box. The presence of guns inside a restaurant could create an uncomfortable situation for our guests and employees and lead to unintended consequences. While we respect the rights of all our guests, we would prefer that guests not bring their guns inside our restaurants.

- Jack in the Box VP of Corporate Communications Brian Luscomb
