Alaska Self-Defense: North Pole man shot, killed in attempted robbery; man who police say was a co-conspirator charged with manslaughter :: 01/14/2022

North Pole police have arrested a man they say was involved in the attempted robbery of firearms on North Santa Claus Lane on charges of robbery and manslaughter after his co-conspirator died during the incident.

The North Pole Police Department reported in a press release that 18-year-old Adam Selid was shot during a gun sale turned attempted robbery on Wednesday that he allegedly planned with 19-year-old Dalen Davis. Selid was shot in the abdomen by the seller and later died at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, according to the release.

Selid’s alleged co-conspirator, Davis, was interviewed at the North Pole Police Department and subsequently booked at the Fairbanks Correctional Center for the charges of robbery and manslaughter. The person who was selling the firearms to Selid and Davis, and who fired at Selid, has not been charged at this time, police wrote.

Police say Davis has been charged with first-degree robbery and manslaughter “because he knowingly engaged in conduct that resulted in the death of another person.”

According to charging documents for Davis, Selid found a listing for firearms and related materials online and set up a meeting with the seller at the Taco Bell in North Pole, negotiating a price of $2,700. The charging documents state that the two men did not bring money to the meeting.

Upon arrival, Davis took the seller’s CZ pistol with a “snap cap” test round loaded.

Charging documents said that Davis told the seller, “We’re taking it all.”

Davis allegedly pointed the CZ handgun at the seller and Selid pointed his own handgun at the seller, who told North Pole police that he believed he was about to be killed. According to the charging documents, the seller grabbed Selid’s handgun and pointed it away from himself, drew his own handgun from his waistband and shot Selid at close range.
