A Politician's Solution To Decrease Gun Violence In Chicago- Just Look The Other Way :: 12/03/2016

If you don’t succeed, try and try again.  At least that is the mantra Chicago Alderman Pat Dowell employs in dealing with the sweeping epidemic of gun heists from railyards in the city.

Urged by Norfolk Southern railroad officials (coerced with cash?) to keep quiet and prevent a massive and thorough investigation into lackluster and incompetent security protocol ultimately leading to the theft of firearms, the public servant decided to do what was in the best interest of all, and turned the other cheek.  Low and behold, in the wake of her decision to maintain ignorance, another burglary took place from a rail car in September of this year according to CBS Chicago, where 27 handguns were immediately circulated into the darkness of the black market and no doubt contributed directly to the city’s out of control gun violence problem and alarming murder rate.

The latest black eye to the city and the railroad continues an unparalleled string of railyard gun robberies and exposes a disconcerting trend as to the effectiveness of Norfolk Southern’s security measures involving volatile freight and highlights the lack of insight from a politician failing to grasp the importance of Chicago’s role as a railroad terminus.  In two previous instances of stolen firearms from rail cars in 2014 and 2015 and both under Dowell’s watch, a total of 113 units were lost to the chaotic criminal underworld.  The ATF is currently investigating the September 18 theft.

Dowell was elected to Alderman of the Third Ward in 2007 and the biography on her website of course paints her with rose colored glasses, “This type of strong leadership that is driven by public input and accountability has resulted in initiatives that reverse the historical lack of investment in the area.”  The statement should be edited with “incompetence” replacing “leadership”, “corruption” swapped out for “initiatives”, and “maintains” wipes out “reverse”.

As bureaucrats posing as politicians continue to sweep Windy City elections, the burgeoning violence along the West shore of Lake Michigan can be illustrated by the simple phrase, “Guns don’t kill people, Chicago politicians do.”
